The next mountain was a challenging day climb up Mount Ophir (1276m). This was the first overseas expedition that I led as an Assistant Scout Leader. The purpose of the Ophir Expedition was to inspire our ventures and spark the spirit of adventure. Mountaineering is not merely a sport, it’s a craft that opens one’s mind and heart to the elements. We started off the trek into the dense forest of Malaysia onwards to Gunung Ledang.

An interesting climb, with ladders spanning up 20m, caves and rivers. What made this climb difficult was the undulating terrain and humid climate.

Our ventures kept a positive attitude and persevered through the expedition. We were rewarded with the cloud inversion at the peak. It was the first time many of our ventures felt what it was like to be above the clouds.

After a quick wash-up at the waterfalls, we headed back to Singapore.

Every mountain is different, and each climb inspires us to see the vastness of this world from the peaks of the earth.
