0000 hrs, 5200m above sea level, Lobuche High Camp. We were huddled in our sleeping bags in sub-zero temperatures as the winds hurled our tents around. Matt turned to me and said, “We might not summit today.” Siew Chiow’s and Kami’s silhouette appeared from outside the tent.

Shaking off the excess snow, they asked if we were alright. Hearing the snow tumbling down our tent, I realised the severity of the weather. “We wait for an hour! If not, we will cancel summit.”, Kami yelled amid the howling winds. My heart sank, did we come all the way here just to turn back?

It is difficult to put in words the experience, people, and place. The Himalayas is the birthplace of high-altitude mountaineering, holding immeasurable cultural, spiritual, and natural value. A place that brings together the brave, the humble and the spiritual. We started this adventure in Kathmandu, where we were introduced to our expedition team. The team comprised 9 people with the youngest at 13 and the oldest in his 60s.
